Portal 2 Takes The Cake

Valve is wrapping up Portal 2 and leaving more than scraps on the cutting room floor. The footage from E3 showed the return of GLaDOS and the rebuilding process of the Aperture Science testing facility. What we know for sure is that the campaign will be much longer, you will have a helpful companion to talk to, and the cake is still a lie. Valve writers Erik Wolpaw and Chet Faliszek told the team from 1UP, during their cross country tour, that there will be a multiplayer mode, but only co-operative game play. They originally tested out a competitive multiplayer mode in which one player would attempt to solve a puzzle while the opponent tries to stop them by any portal possible. Erik Wolpaw said that it started out fun, engaging a lot of the fun aspects of portal, but after a few seconds it became utter chaos and was scraped for impracticality.
The puzzle challenges are going to be much harder in Portal 2,but of course the player will be welcomed back to the testing facility with time to enjoy the new environment that was left for dead so long ago. With still no word on the next Half Life installment, the rumor of the portal gun being a usable weapon is still very exciting, and Portal 2 will be great practice in the mean time. The portal gun in the sequel will play a bigger combat role as well as a puzzle solving tool. Learning to work with your portal gun in harmony is important and the key to any healthy relationship. Portal 2 is set to launch February 9th, 2011.
