Fatalities in High Definition! – The Mortal Kombat HD Kollection

Remaking old video games with updated, super crisp, stellar looking graphics has been an ongoing trend for a while now. Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo HD Remix (SSF2THR) showed us all how cool a high def remake of a classic fighting game could be. But some of us yearned for a little more. Some of us wanted to see what someone’s head and spinal cord being ripped out looked like in 1080p on a 47″ LCD TV. Well folks, that time is almost upon us with the Mortal Kombat HD Kollection!
Yes! Finally the game(s) that some of us played in our youth when we wanted a little more violence in our fighting games. Mortal Kombat HD Kollection (MKHK) is to feature the 3 best games in the series with Mortal Kombat, Mortal Kombat II, and Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3. This isn’t just some upscaled mediocre crap either. Earthrealm, Outworld, and all the characters will be updated. In fact, unlike SSF2THR, which used new drawings for their characters, MKHK is filming new actors for all the character spots! We can now finally get a good look of Scorpion’s ghoulish face as he takes his mask off and burns his opponents to ashes.
Four European sites, the game is listed for release in November 2010 for Playstation 3. However, those listings have since been pulled and it’s been confirmed that filming has taken place as recently as earlier this month. It seems November is an unlikely release date. I’m guessing a Spring 2011 release will be most likely, a few months before the release of the latest Mortal Kombat game. The game being PS3 exclusive seems a bit silly as well, so time will tell if it makes its way onto other platforms, too.
Personally I can not wait for this game. You have no idea how many times, while playing Belisle in Street Fighter, I have wanted to rip his beating heart right out of his chest to display for everyone in the room. And now I will have my opportunity. TOASTY!
